How can I write an article? To write an article you need to be logged in (so you need to have an account very first) and you have to be in a certain usergroup which gives you special abilities and further access to the page. If you have got an account, you are logged in and you belong to a usergroup which is allowed to write articles, the button "Submit an article" (picture) should be available in the user menu beneath the login menu. Press that button and you can see an interface in the middle of the page, where you can author your article. You have several user-friendly options to write your article like insert a link or insert a table. Furthermore you can refer to another article in the ScattPort page, use the function Linkr (picture) below therefore. To insert images use the Image (picture) function beside Linkr. Here you can upload images and insert them into your text. Make sure you have selected a Section and a Category (picture) (view also How does that whole Sections and Categories stuff works?) in which your article fits. |

How does that whole Sections and Categories stuff works? Most of the the content in this page are articles, for example this text is an article, every program listed under "Programs" is an article, all news are articles and so on... These articles are divided into several sections and these sections are subdivided into several categories. Let's say Europe for example is the section, so Italy, Germany and Spain would be a category of this section. If you would like to write an article about Italy, you would put it into the category Italy which is in the section Europe for example. With keeping such an order in all articles, it is much more comfortable to manage a big size of content in the future. And you can easily rebuild the page, for example if you would like to show a whole section or category at another place. And most important, the page sorts itself and puts all articles, written by users to the right place at the right time. By the way, this article is in the section "FAQs" and in the category "ScattPort Webpage FAQ" and should be displayed in the Frequently Ask Question under Webpage FAQ, but we assume you already noticed that ;). |

What is a Content Management System (CMS)? A content management system is a computer application used to create, edit, manage, search and publish various kinds of digital media and electronic text. CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, versioning, and publishing industry-specific documentation such as news articles, operators' manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, and marketing brochures. The content managed may include computer files, image media, audio files, video files, electronic documents, and Web content. This Page is using Joomla as a content management system. Joomla is written in PHP an uses MySQL as database. Using a CMS is more practical to show some web content than writing his own PHP code for example. It is much faster to bring some content online and you do not need to have so much knowledge and experience. And it is very easy to manage users (e.a. userrights) and to work with more people on the same project, even at the same time. |
